Twice as Strong:12 Seconds, 2 Brothers - the Boston Marathon Changed Everything

On April 15, the world learned about the horrific bombings that took place at the 2013 Boston Marathon. TWICE AS STRONG takes a look at that tragic day from the perspective of two brothers and their friends and family who were directly affected by the explosions. JP and Paul Norden and Paul’s girlfriend, Jacqui, were waiting for Mike Jefferson to finish the run. Before Mike could cross the finish line, the three spectators were impacted, standing directly beside the second bomb. All three suffered extensive physical and psychological damage, with both brothers losing part of their right legs. Mike was left with feelings of guilt since he had encouraged his friends to come and cheer for him on what would have otherwise been a day of celebration.

Much more than a chronological account of the events, TWICE AS STRONG focuses on this group of friends who were, literally and figuratively, scarred by the explosions in very different ways. These four young adults from the same small town outside of Boston provide a previously unavailable view of the events of that day and how it continues affecting them now and will for the rest of their lives. Support from their friends, family, and the Boston community has helped them as they learn how to cope with their new normal. Lessons in resiliency complete the story by providing tangible takeaways for readers to create their own personal crisis plan.
