Melrose/Sally Frank's Farmers' Market This Week

Come join Club Sprouts!  —  a tasting program for kids.  Last week our clue was "I look like celery but taste like black licorice.  I start with an 'f' and rhyme with 'kennel'." Did you get the answer?  Come to our market this week to guess the answer to our next clue and win a prize!

Bring your knives, scissors and garden tools to the market to have them sharpened by On the Edge Knife who will be at the market to sharpen all those items that you have put off being sharpened.  She's only there once a month!

Music this week: Thomas Smith, 4-6pm, Tommy Smith’s energy and personality engages audiences of all ages to join him during his performances with a wide genre of music, he pleases any crowd with his humor, songs and personable approach.

Free outdoor Yoga in the Park 5pm --Bring your yoga mat with you to the Farmers Market on Thursdays! Amber D'Ambrosio from Barre & Soul Yoga Studio of Melrose (formerly B Yoga) will have an hour of yoga. It will be every week from now until September 25th.  All ages and all levels are welcome. Stretch away the stress and you'll leave feeling centered and rejuvenated. Each week will feature a recent graduates from their Yoga Teacher Training program. Yoga will be canceled on rainy days. A few yoga mats will be available to borrow.

Blake the Balloon Guy will be at the market all day twisting animals, hats, characters and more!

Non-Profit: American Diabetes Association is promoting their BOSTON STEP OUT: WALK TO STOP DIABETES, BOSTON COMMON – OCTOBER 18, 2014. The Boston Step Out: Walk to Stop Diabetes is a one-day signature fundraising and awareness walk benefiting the American Diabetes Association. Walkers have the choice of walking a 1, 2 or 3-mile loop around the historic Boston Common. Every dollar raised supports the Association’s mission: to prevent and cure diabetes and to improve the lives of all people affected by diabetes. Together we can Stop Diabetes. One step at a time.

Flats Mentor Farms bringing a variety of herbs along with baby bok choy, amaranth, pea tendrils, daikon, radishes, lettuce, and other vegetables.

Roberto's Seafood bringing haddock, bluefish. swordfish, tuna, monkfish and halibut.   Bob will have a lighter load this week in anticipation of people being away for the holiday, so if you would like to get fish at the market, let Bob know by phone - call (617) 529-5701.

Shady Pine Farm bringing grass fed, hormone free beef, pork, and pastured eggs.  Preorder eggs from by contacting Julie at 774-200-0084 or shadypinefarm@verizon.net.

Ackermann Maple Farm bringing Vermont pure maple syrup in 3 grades:  Grade A fancy, Grade A medium amber, Grade A dark amber.

Soluna Garden Farm bringing herb, spice, and tea blends made by Soluna from certified organic ingredients; fresh herbs and cut flowers grown by Soluna.

Cannistraci Fine Food bringing popovers (original, cheese & cinnamon-sugar), breads (multi-grain, plain, rustic Italian, cinnamon/raison, rye), scones and pies (apple, blueberry & cherry).

Doves and Figs - originally scheduled for this week, but had to cancel.

Fior D’Italia bringing freshly made then frozen pastas and raviolis, sauces (marinara, puttanesca, alfredo,  pesto, and basil) and entrees (spinach lasagne, and wild mushroom), along with fresh mozzarella.

Eventide Confections bringing biscuits (either peach or blueberry, depending on if the peaches are ripe!), cheddar scallion scones, fruit tarts ( maybe raspberry! Or plum!), zucchini and tomato galettes with goat cheese and fresh herbs, rugelach, brownies, and blondes.  Mother Nature decides the menu!

Tooba's  located in downtown Melrose across from Shaws, bringing scones, felafel, hummus, baklava, couscous, eggplant sandwiches, apple brie & sundried tomato sandwiches, and pear brie and sundried tomato sandwiches.

Coffee Tea and Me bringing flatbreads, granola, watermelon salsa, ice tea iced, coffee and some savory tarts.

Beverley Farms Soapwerks bringing homemade organic glycerin soaps, deodorants, and creams.  Beverly Farms Soapwerks has some interesting additions to their line of soaps.  All the soaps have be reformulated adding Tussah Silk in the process. Raw silk in the formula adds a soft, smooth feel to the lather. New fragrances include Lime Cilantro, Sea Petals, and Orange & Clove,  He has also created a new men’s line, four men's soap fragrances in ZEN organic oil blend, high performance shower gel, men's Sport Stick Deodorant, super close shaving with Whipped Shave Soap, and four men's cologne fragrances.  He also has Salt & Sea Weed Exfoliating scrub made with Argan Oil (see previous article from 2011) and Digitata Seaweed, harvested from Maine.

Mary Ellen Crafts  bringing her perennials, house plants, fresh cut flowers, felt boards, and jewelry.
