“Yes,
Virginia The Musical” was inspired by the true and heartwarming story of
8-year-old Virginia O’Hanlon, who wrote a letter to the “New York Sun”
newspaper in 1897, to ask about the existence of Santa Claus. The Sun’s editor
responded with a poignantly worded essay that has became one of the most famous
newspaper editorials of all time and has served as the inspiration for Macy’s
“Believe” campaign.   As part of this
campaign, Macy’s developed “Yes, Virginia The Musical” in 2012, and it was
embraced by schools across the country. From Arizona and California to Florida and New
York, teachers, students
and families have all rallied around the musical and brought its inspiring
message of hope to life. As part of their commitment to arts
education, Macy's is now making the script and score of “Yes, Virginia, the Musical” available royalty free to schools.
Melrose is thrilled to be one of the first schools in the area to present this
inspirational holiday classic. The cast of Yes Virginia will be at Macy’s Department Store at Square One Mall in Saugus on Sunday November 10th from 11AM -2PM to provide the public with a preview of the musical.
