Melrose Business Owner Among Early Donors to Emergency Fund

A Melrose business owner was among the early donations made to the city's Emergency Fund.

A Melrose business owner was among the early donations made to the city's Emergency Fund, according to a city press statement.

Steve Trulli, of Melrose-based Whittemore Hardware, recently made one of the first donations of the year to the Melrose Emergency Fund, according to the statement.

"I want to thank Steve for his generosity," said Mayor Rob Dolan in the statement. “Melrose is truly a city of neighbors. Time and again, I have seen the community rally around families who are experiencing misfortunes such as illness, house fires, or unemployment. But sometimes we don’t know what our neighbors are going through. The Emergency Fund allows us to reach out a helping hand to everyone in the community in times of need.”

The Emergency Fund provides one-time help to Melrosians experiencing financial emergencies and in need of food, fuel and utilities, according to the statement.

"My goal is that no one in Melrose will go cold or hungry," Dolan said in the statement. One hundred percent of all donations benefit the Emergency Fund, as there are no administrative costs, and the fund administrator makes referrals to other local agencies, if needed, according to the statement.

There will be an Emergency Fund holiday special, featuring the mayor and City Hall staff, which will be running often throughout the month of December on MMTV, according to the statement.

According to the statement, recent donors to the Emergency Fund include:

  • William and Mary Hanlon
  • Anthony and Marjorie Koles, in memory of Marguerite Ells
  • Outloud Poetry Group

To make a donation, make checks payable to the City of Melrose, with “Melrose Emergency Fund” in the memo line and mail to the Melrose Emergency Fund, Mayor’s Office, 562 Main St., Melrose, MA 02176 or drop it off at the Mayor’s Office on the second floor of City Hall.
