More than 300 students and two dozen teams, including four from Melrose, will participate in the FIRST LEGO League State Qualifier competition in Melrose on Saturday.

More than 300 students and two dozen teams will participate in the FIRST LEGO League State Qualifier competition in Melrose on Saturday, according to Mayor Rob Dolan's blog.

Four teams from Melrose will be participating at the competition, which runs from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Melrose Veterans Memorial Middle School, according to the blog. Student in grade 4-8 will be taking part in the competition, which is free to attend, the blog adds.

Each team will try to solve challenges presented by "Nature's Fury," including rising sea levels, hurricanes and avalanches, according to the blog. Check out the video above to see a breakdown of the scoring and the playing field.

"The first part involves robot missions that explore solutions to the challenges we face from nature, such as how to make buildings structurally safe against earthquakes," reads the blog post. "The robots are created from Lego components. The second part of the competition involves judging of projects."

Visitors, who can watch the four playing field on a large protection screen, can attend the competition by walking through the cafeteria and ask students about their possible solutions to the challenges, according to the blog.
