MassEquality endorses Katherine Clark for Congress

MALDEN – Citing her longstanding leadership in fighting for equality, the state’s leading grassroots advocacy organization for LGBTQ rights has endorsed State Senator Katherine Clark for Congress in the special election to be held on December 10.

“We have in State Senator Katherine Clark an opportunity to elect to Congress a proven champion of LGBTQ equality,” said MassEquality Executive Director Kara Coredini. “From the creation of the nation’s first statewide homeless youth commission to address LGBTQ youth homelessness to passage of  transgender nondiscrimination protections to championing stronger bullying protections for LGBTQ youth in schools, Senator Clark has been a leader on every significant LGBTQ legislative victory since she joined the State House. She will bring that steadfast commitment and sophistication to Congress to the continued benefit of our Commonwealth and all LGBTQ Americans.”

“I’m honored to receive the support of MassEquality, and am proud to have worked side-by-side with them over the last several years,” Clark said. “Providing equal rights, protections and opportunities to all of our citizens is the fundamental job of government, and I am proud that Massachusetts continues to be a leader in equality. In Congress, I look forward to working to make our federal laws reflect these same values.”

Katherine fully supports marriage equality and civil rights for all Americans and she was a co-sponsor of the historic Massachusetts transgender equal rights law in 2011. Katherine voted in 2008 to repeal a 1913 law that allowed for Massachusetts to begin recognizing out of state same sex marriages. While there has been notable progress recently on the federal level, Katherine believes Congress needs to go further in securing rights for all Americans. For far too long, the LGBTQ community has lived in fear of losing their jobs simply for being who they are, and in Congress, Katherine will fight for passage of the Employment Non-Discrimination Act.
