Trying To Capture a Wedding

I've never done it, and that's what this is all about.

Nineteen days and counting until I conquer the role of wedding photographer. Oh, and by the way: replace the word "conquer" with the words "stumble through".

I got to visit the actual site today at a local VFW Hall and found myself very pleased with the location. It was much more open and spacious than I thought it might be. The fact that 120 people are going to be packed in there is something I don't want to think about.

I'm not even going to mention how I feel in large crowds in tiny spaces. I don't even understand how the sardines pack into that small can, but then again, they're dead, so I'm pretty sure they don't really care.

I'm actually very excited about it. I'm approaching it as a street photography assignment, but in a hall, with a wedding going on. It should be fun, but I want to definitely do my own take on the event.

There is one idea swirling around inside my head that will involved my tripod, a flash, the dance floor, and a slow shutter speed. Oh, I'm sure it's been done before, but I've never done it, and that's what this is all about.

It's going to be a first for me, as most of the stuff I've been doing this year. It was my first time going into Boston with my camera, my first time shooting street photography, my first time using an external flash, my first time photographing portraits for a charity event, my first time photographing for a fund raiser and finally, my first time shooting a wedding.
