Let’s Take a Local Approach to State Government

I believe we need to manage our resources better at the state level. I'm running for state senator and asking for your vote because I want to do something about it.

This morning I had the pleasure of attending the 2014 Mayor’s State of the City Address presented by Malden Mayor Gary Christenson at the Malden Chamber of Commerce Breakfast. This presentation reminded me of some of the most important reasons I am running for State Senator in the April 1st Special Election.

I was very pleased to hear of the many successes our neighbors in the City of Malden have achieved over the last year led by Mayor Christenson. These accomplishments include improvements in the schools, a 14% reduction in crime from 2012 to 2013, and the use of technology to improve public works service delivery (Malden is the number 1 user nationwide of the See Click Fix app).

Less uplifting was the news that state local aid and school funding will be level funded for Malden, like most of our communities, in the Governor’s budget. Mayor Christenson reassuringly proclaimed that the city will continue to “do more with less.”

From my experience as an Alderman in the City of Melrose, I am sure he will. Malden, like all of our communities, will continue to do more with less, because we have to.

I want to work to improve our state government, to make it more efficient and streamlined, just as the City of Malden has, as we in the City of Melrose have and as all of the other communities in the 5th Middlesex District have.

In doing so, we will not only improve the delivery of services to those in need, we will also free up more of our tax dollars to come back to our cities and towns through unrestricted local aid where it can be applied directly to improve education, police and fire protection, or to otherwise advance our communities as we see fit.

If you agree, I would very much appreciate your vote and support on April 1st!

With appreciation for your consideration,

Monica Medeiros

Candidate for State Senator

5th Middlesex District: Malden, Melrose, Reading, Stoneham, Wakefield and Precincts 1, 2, 3 & 8 of Winchester.
