I heard that the state legislature passed the budget recently which includes a provision for photo EBT cards, exempting the elderly and handicapped. The Republicans have been pushing this requirement for the past 5 years only to be rejected by the democratically controlled legislature! Their primary reasoning for rejecting it was cost…about $5 million dollars. However after the recent Inspector General’s audit report was released outlining the hundreds of millions of dollars in waste, fraud and corruption in the welfare and transitional assistance programs, the Democrats couldn’t use cost any longer as an excuse not to pass this requirement. In other words the almost 1 billion dollars in waste, fraud, and corruption over 5 years finally equaled a number that even Democrats couldn’t accept! And therein lies the difference between Democrats and Republicans, the Democrats willingly accept waste, fraud, and corruption while Republicans seek to minimize it! The money wasted could have been used to provide money for additional needy people. So when the next election comes along remember the group which really cares about your money and how it is spent. Now all you folks lining up for government assistance……smile for the camera!
