Obituary for Former Melrosian Michael J. Lucey

Malden resident Michael J. Lucey, formerly of Melrose, died at the Melrose Wakefield Hospital on Dec. 20 at the age of 67, according to an obituary posted to the Gately Funeral Home website.

Lucey was born on Aug. 4, 1946 and was a Class of 1966 graduate of Melrose High School, according to the obituary. Prior to his retirement, he served as an ironworker for Local #7 for 37 years, adds the obituary.

He also was a member of the Malden Irish American for many years, according to the obituary.

"He was the beloved husband of Maureen (Cargill)Lucey for 43 years. Caring son of the late Gerald & Rena (Adams) Lucey," reads the obituary. "(He was the) loving father of Kevin M. Lucey (and) his wife Caroline of Nahant, Thomas J. Lucey of Malden, Denise M. Heon of Braintree and Kerrianne E. Regan & her husband Frank of Medford.

"Cherished grandfather of Evan, Briana, Ethan, Trinity and Owen. Devoted twin brother of the late Gerald I. Lucey. Dear friend of Billy & Diane Wilkie of Billerica. Also survived by many brothers & sisters in law and many nieces (and) nephews."

Visitation hours are scheduled for 4-8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 26 at the funeral home, and a Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 27 at St. Mary's Church on Herbert Street in Melrose, according to the obituary.
