Obituary for Longtime Melrosian Richard Mara

Richard M. Mara, 79, formerly of Melrose, died at the Thomasville Hospital in Thomasville, N.C. on Dec. 29, 2013, according to an obituary on the Gately Funeral Home website.

Mara, a Boston native and graduate of Boston-based Christopher Columbus High School, lived in Melrose for 30 years. He served in the Air Force during the Korean War, and he also worked as an electrical engineer for Anro Engineering.

Visiting hours are set for 4-8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 9 at Gately Funeral Home, 79 West Foster St. in Melrose.

Mara's funeral is scheduled for 9 a.m. Friday, Jan. 10 at Gately Funeral Home, followed by a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary's Church.
