Melrose Elks Hosts Annual Soccer Shoot Out

Melrose soccer players participate in Elks Soccer Shoot Out on Sunday, Sept. 23.

On Sunday, Sept. 23 at Hesseltine Field the Melrose Elks, under the direction of Exalted Ruler, Steve Leahy, conducted their annual Soccer Shootout for Melrose children, ages 6 through 13.

It was a gorgeous sun-drenched third day of autumn when around 35 kids along with parents, grandparents and siblings gathered at the field adjacent to the Horace Mann School for the competition.

The older players shot at a full-size net separated into a grid with differing point values, while the younger players shot at progressively narrowing gates.

The first-place winners move on to the District Championships in Revere on Oct. 7. The first-place winners in the various divisions were Samantha Regan, Shelley
Donahue, Kate Regan, Patrick Donohue, Thomas Bilbilian and Karen Mortimer.
