UPDATE: Armed Robbery at Vasco Gas Station Monday Night

Melrose Police were looking for a white male wearing a dark sweatshirt who showed a knife.

searched for an armed robber on Monday night after the clerk at the Vasco gas station, 870 Main St., reported a man came into the station with a knife and demanded money.

At approximately 8:55 p.m., the clerk reported the robbery to police, Melrose Police Lt. Mark DeCroteau said on Tuesday. The clerk described the robber as a white man approximately 26 or 27 years old, six feet tall, wearing dark blue jeans, a dark hooded sweatshirt and a baseball cap. His clothing was "obscuring his face," DeCroteau said.

The robber demanded money and showed a knife "described as dark in color, not shiny," DeCroteau said. After the clerk handed over an undetermined amount of cash, the robber ran out of the station, to the rear of the building and towards Foodmaster next door while holding a cellphone to his ear. Melrose Police combed the area and could not locate the man.

The incident remains under investigation.
