Police and fire officials in Boston will take part in practice "emergency" simulation drills around the city this weekend.

On Saturday, May 3, public safety officials and first responders will be seen around the area of the Hynes Convention Center and Boston City Hall, among other areas, for the regional training, part of a program called "Urban Shield: Boston", according to Boston Magazine

The 24-training program is coordinated by Boston's Office of Emergency Management and will begin around 8 a.m. on Saturday, when about 2,000 personnel will be on hand from the Metro Boston Homeland Security Region that comprises Cambridge, Chelsea, Everett, Quincy, Revere, Somerville, Brookline and Winthrop. State officials and MBTA transit police will also be on hand, according to Boston Magazine.

The exercises are expected to include an "active shooter" in the Brookline area, as well as an "explosive device" situation in the Boston-area transit system and a "hostage rescue" incident in Boston, along with eight additional simulations, according to Boston.com
