U.S. Marshals Arrest Wanted Man After Bus Strikes Their Vehicle's Door

U.S. Marshals arrested a man Tuesday afternoon in Melrose on a warrant for allegedly violating his probation.

A bus on Tuesday afternoon hit the opening door of a vehicle carrying U.S. Marshals, who were serving a warrant at 306 Main St. in Melrose on a man wanted for allegedly violating his probation, Chief Mike Lyle said.

The U.S. Marshals had a warrant for Daniel R. Gullion, an approximately 38-year-old man who had the warrant issued for failure to appear in court, Lyle said.

Gullion was not at the apartment building near the corner of Main and West Wyoming when Marshals arrived, Lyle said, so they waited for him and later watched him arrive at the building.

"They went out to exit their car, and unfortunately a bus came by and took the door off," Lyle said. "We got a flood of phone calls, people thought it was gunshots."

The Marshals used an electric stun gun and subduing and taking Gullion into custody, Lyle said.

During a courtesy booking at the police station, Lyle said that what police believe to be drugs fell from Gullion's pockets, which led to Melrose Police issuing him a summons on charges of possession of a Class A substance and a Class B substance. The substances need to be sent to the lab for testing and confirmation, the chief added.

"It’s easier for us to summons him and allow the Marshals take possession of him," Lyle said. "He’ll have to appear in Malden Court for the charges from Melrose Police."
