Golf Club Assault Charges Follow Fight Over Late Night Noise

Two men were arrested after a fight in the early morning hours on Sunday and another three were issued summonses.

Two men were arrested on assault with dangerous weapon charges—one of which was a golf club—after a early morning argument over noise, according to .

On Sunday, Aug. 14 at 2:38 a.m., police responded to a report of a fight in progress in the roadway on Pearl Street. Melrose Police Lt. Mark DeCroteau said that officers found "several individuals" in the street when they arrived on scene.

"It’s believed that three of the individuals were visiting somebody on Pearl Street and the two that are under arrest got into words with them about noise they were making on the other porches," DeCroteau said. "They went out in the street and a fight ensued."

Brian Williams, 29, 53 Pearl St., Melrose, was arrested and charged with assault with a dangerous weapon, which DeCroteau said was a golf club.

Michael D. Phillion, 23, 92 Summer St., Medford, was arrested and charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, which DeCroteau said was a shod foot.

Two 22-year-old Melrose men and a 54-year-old Medford man were also issued summonses on charges of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.

No one was transported to the hospital for any injuries stemming from the fight, DeCroteau said.
