MBTA Police Create Website for Injured Officer Richard Donohue Jr.

The MBTA Transit Police Benevolent Fund has created a website to benefit Winchester native and wounded Officer Richard Donohue Jr., according to the transit police blog.

The MBTA Transit Police Benevolent Fund Inc. has created a website to benefit Winchester native and wounded Officer Richard "Dic" Donohue Jr., according to the transit police blog.

"Officer Richard Donohue is showing some positive signs of recovery but it will be a long and difficult road for him and his family," reads the website. "The MBTA Police Association Benevolent Fund, Inc. is seeking donations to assist him and his family in this difficult time."  

Visitors to the Officer Richard Donohue Fund website can make a donation by clicking the "Donate" Paypal button located toward the bottom of the page, which will redirect you to the MBTA Police Association Benevolent Fund Paypal page. Alternatively, checks can be made payable to MBTA Police Association Benevolent Fund, Inc. and mailed to: MBTA Police Department, 240 South Hampton Street, Boston, MA, 02118.

Early Friday morning, Donohue Jr. was shot in the thigh during a shoot-out with the Boston Marathon bombing suspects in Watertown. He is currently in serious but stable condition in the intensive care unit at Mount Auburn Hospital in Cambridge.

Tamerlan and Dzhokhar Tsarnaev allegedly killed three people and injured more than 170 by detonating bombs near the finish line of the marathon. Tamerlan died during the confrontation with police, while Dzhokhar was captured Friday night in Watertown and will be tried in federal court. The brothers are also accused of killing MIT Officer Sean Collier prior to the Watertown shoot-out where Donohue Jr. was critically injured.

Donohue Jr., 33, of Woburn, is a 1998 Winchester High School graduate and also a graduate of Virginia Military Institute in 2002. Prior to joining the MBTA police force, he served as an officer for the U.S. Navy.

Donohue Jr.'s younger brother, Edward Donohue, also serves as an officer for the Winchester Police Department.

He is married with a 7-month-old son.
