MedFlight Update: Mom, Daughter OK After Emergency C-Section

The woman's husband and proud new father emailed Melrose Patch with an update.

Almost three weeks ago, a during rush hour to transport a Melrose-Wakefield Hospital patient to a Boston hospital, with onlookers wondering what happened.

Turns out that the emergency transfer was due to complications following an emergency cesarean section, but both mother and newborn daughter are now home and doing well, according to the woman's husband and proud new dad, who recently emailed Melrose Patch.

He emailed looking for a copy of the video of the MedFlight taking off from the Knoll (viewable on the right) and agreed to share details about what happened.

"Mom and baby are now both home from the hospital and I want to keep this video to show our daughter what her mom had to go through!" he wrote.

The mother had the emergency c-section five weeks before her due date due to severe preeclampsia, the father wrote, which according to The Preeclampsia Foundation is a life-threatening disorder that occurs only during pregnancy and the postpartum period.

After the c-section, the mother had heavy internal bleeding due to severe HELLP Syndrome, a complication of preeclampsia, which required the MedFlight to Boston. Also, their newborn daughter required help breathing due to her lungs not being fully developed.

"They were both transferred to the same hospital in Boston—our daughter spent 11 nights in the NICU and Mom spent almost 14 nights in the hospital," the father wrote. "Baby and mom are both home now doing very well!"
