Melrose Man Accused of Assaulting Officers in Boston

Tyler Murphy, 20, is facing multiple charges after allegedly breaking a car mirror near Fenway Park Tuesday night, according to Boston Police.

A Melrose man is accused of breaking a car mirror and assaulting two officers Tuesday night near Fenway Park, according to the Boston Police Department news website.

Tyler Murphy, 20, was arrested and charged with willful and malicious destruction of property, resisting arrest and assault and battery on a police officer.

At about 10:29 p.m., officers were performing a detail outside Fenway Park during the game between the Boston Red Sox and the New York Yankees were stationed at the intersection of Kilmarnock and Van Ness Streets when officers heard people yelling, “Get him! Get him!”, according to the site.

Upon hearing the screaming, officers turned and saw a white man—later identified as Murphy—running in their direction, according to the site. After stopping the suspect, officers discovered that Murphy was seen allegedly knocking and breaking a mirror off of a parked motor vehicle, according to the site.

"As officers were in the process of taking the suspect into custody, the suspect snapped his head back and then forward striking two of the officers attempting to affect the arrest," read the site. "After a brief struggle, the suspect was subdued and taken into custody."
