Melrose Man Accused of Assaulting Senior Citizen

Melrose Man Accused of Assaulting Senior Citizen

At 9:15 p.m. Jan. 6, Melrose Police responded to Dexter Road to assist a citizen. John G. Bennett, 23, of 48 Dexter Road, Melrose, was arrested and charged with assault and battery, assault and battery on a person over 60/disabled with an injury and witness intimidation.

Jan. 8

6:48 a.m.: Franklin and Main Streets, report of an accident.

9:20 a.m.: A person visited the police station to report a past theft from a vehicle parked at Melrose-Wakefield Hospital on Lebanon Street.

12:30 p.m.: Mount Vernon Street, report of an accident.

5:35 p.m.: Linwood Avenue, caller reported that her house was full of smoke. Melrose Fire Department was notified.

Jan. 7

3:28 p.m.: Washington Street, caller reported having an issue with son. A 21-year-old Melrose man was summonsed on charges of disorderly conduct and malicious destruction of property over $250.

6:57 p.m.: Main Street near D'Amici's Bakery, OnStar reported a possible altercation between two men in an alleyway near D'Amici's. The incident turned out to be about a motor vehicle accident dispute. A 43-year-old Wakefield man was summonsed on charges of unlicensed operation of a vehicle and not being in possession of a license.

7:51 p.m.: Howard Street, report of a past larceny. 

Jan. 6

7:58 a.m.: A person visited the police station to report identity theft.

9:23 a.m.: Malvern Street, caller concerned about neighbor's unoccupied home. Police reported possible water break, and Fire Department was called to the scene. Firefighters discovered a water leak on the second floor and turned off the water and electricity.

10:39 a.m.: Essex Street, report of vehicle with a smashed window.

11:54 a.m.: Slayton Road, report of a past larceny. 

12:05 p.m.: A person visited the police station to report a past hit-and-run accident.

2:58 p.m.: Grove Street, report of a theft. The caller reported seeing a woman in front of an house screaming and a young man running away with a woman's purse. The suspect was described as a white man in his 20s, wearing a red-hooded jacket, vest and fitted baseball cap. The suspect was last seen running in the area of Lynde, Summer and Malvern Streets. Police were unable to locate the suspect.
