Melrose Police Release Surveillance Camera Photos of Eastern Bank Robber

Police believe suspect may be same man who robbed Wakefield bank in October.

have released surveillance camera photos from the robbery of the branch at 27 Melrose St. last month in the hopes of tracking down the robber, whom police believe may be the same man who robbed a Wakefield bank one month earlier.

The on Friday, Nov. 19 was first reported at approximately 3:40 p.m. The robber entered the bank, but did not appear armed and did not show a weapon or say that he had a weapon, according to Melrose Police Lt. Mark DeCroteau. The robber demanded tellers place money in a bag and later left the area in a vehicle.

DeCroteau said the robber was described as a white man, approximately 40-50 years old, between 5-foot-6 and 5-foot-8 with a small build. He had gray hair and was wearing a white baseball hat with a green shamrock emblem and had covered his face.

Police also believe the robber may be the same man who robbed the Savings Bank in Wakefield on Oct. 18, as the suspect is similar in both description and method.

Melrose Police interviewed employees of the bank and people outside the bank that witnessed the robber leaving, and are reviewing surveillance video from the bank, DeCroteau said.
