Police Investigate Rash of Vehicle Break-Ins in Melrose

Police Investigate Rash of Vehicle Break-Ins in Melrose

Melrose Police investigated nearly a dozen reports of vehicle break-ins over the course of two days, according to police logs.

On Oct. 14, police fielded six calls from residents on Beech Avenue reporting vehicle break-ins, with items stolen from one. Two vehicular breaking and entering reports came in from East Foster Street residents, with one theft of a GPS reported, and there were also two break-ins on Argyle Street and one on Malvern that same day.

On Oct. 15, an East Foster Street resident claimed that their vehicle was entered sometime overnight.

Here is a look at some of the entries in the Melrose Police logs:

Oct. 14

9:43 a.m.: Malvern Street, caller reported that someone went through his vehicle overnight. Nothing was reported stolen.

10:36 a.m.: East Foster Street, caller reported GPS stolen from inside his vehicle.

10:53 a.m.: Lincoln Street, report of a raccoon stuck in a decorative well. An officer was able to free the raccoon.

11:26 a.m.: East Foster Street, caller reported vehicle gone through but nothing was stolen.

11:43 a.m.: A man visited the police station to report property stolen at Melrose-Wakefield Hospital.

12:44 p.m.: Beech Avenue, report of a vehicle entered overnight. Nothing reported stolen.

12:50 p.m.: Beech Avenue, report of a vehicle entered overnight. Nothing was reported missing. 

1:11 p.m.: Beech Avenue, report of items stolen from inside a vehicle overnight.

1:22 p.m.: Beech Avenue, report of a vehicle entered overnight but nothing was reportedly missing.

1:27 p.m.: Beech Avenue, report of a vehicle entered overnight. Nothing reported as stolen.

1:37 p.m.: Beech Avenue, report of a vehicle entered overnight. Nothing reported stolen.

2:58 p.m.: Argyle Street, caller reported that their car door and glove box were found open but nothing was missing.

5:29 p.m.: Argyle Street, report of a past breaking and entering into a vehicle.

9:29 p.m.: Argyle Street, caller reported that someone was just in their driveway he believes checking the door handle of his vehicle. The suspect was described as wearing a black ball cap.

Oct. 15

7:55 a.m.: East Foster Street, report of a past breaking and entering into a vehicle.

1:29 p.m.: Lynn Fells Parkway at Melrose Street, report of a single-car crash. Fire Department and State Police notified.

2:53 p.m.: Main Street at Grove Street, report of an past hit-and-run accident. 

7:59 p.m.: Linwood Avenue, caller reported that a flatbed truck passed by before hearing a loud bang. The man then heard someone yelling about gas being spilled, and then they left the area. The Fire Department was notified about a diesel spill in the area.

9:55 p.m.: Liberty Bell on Main Street, report of a purchase made using counterfeit money. 

Oct. 16

6 a.m.: Washington Street, report of a domestic disturbance. Francis Goodwin, of 349 Washington St., Melrose, was arrested and charged with assault and battery.

8:39 a.m.: Melrose High School on Lynn Fells Parkway, report of a stolen bicycle.

2:26 p.m.: Upham and School Streets area, report of an accident. Two vehicles were towed, and one person transported to an hospital.
