Police Log: Cocaine Arrest, Stolen Shaw's Cart

Unlicensed Driver Arrest Leads to Cocaine Charge

Wednesday, Sept. 29, 7:30 p.m.: Two Melrose Police detectives were in the area of the Melrose Towers plaza parking lot when they saw a man "who was known to them" drive by, according to Melrose Police Lt. Mark DeCroteau. The detectives checked his license status and discovered it had been suspended.

After pulling the car over, the detectives placed under arrest Julio A. Zoquier, 38, of 35 Brannon Harris Way, Apt. 351, Boston. The car was towed after the arrest and the Melrose Police K-9 unit check the car; the police dog alerted officers to the presence of illegal substances in the car, DeCroteau said. A subsequent search of the car discovered five grams of cocaine and Zoquier was charged with possession to distribute a Class B drug.

Electric Cart Reported Stolen From Shaw's

Monday, Sept. 27, 5:29 p.m.: A manager from Shaw's Supermarket called Melrose Police to report that a man had stolen a electric cart from the store around 9 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 25. DeCroteau said Melrose Police watched surveillance video from the store that showed the man leave the store driving the cart, heading up Essex Street toward Myrtle Street.

"The person did pay by debit card to use the cart in the store," DeCroteau said. "We're investigating now to try and locate that person's information to try and follow up on whether or not he still has it or what it took place."

Other Arrests and Summonses

A 38-year-old Lowell woman was issued a summons on Tuesday, Sept. 28 on the charge of violation of an abuse prevention order.

A 15-year-old was issued a summons on Tuesday, Sept. 28 on charges of disorderly conduct and possession of a Class E drug.

Chantale Chemfor, 30, Lynn, was arrested on Wednesday, Sept. 29 on the charge of domestic assault and battery.

A 43-year-old Melrose woman was issued a summons on Wednesday, Sept. 29 on charges of domestic assault and battery and malicious destruction of property worth less than $250.

A 46-year-old Framingham man was issued a summons on Thursday, Sept. 30 on the charge of operating a motor vehicle with a license revoked as a habitual traffic offender.
