Police Log: Fire on Lynde Street, Several B&Es on Island Hill Avenue

Fire Breaks Out at Lynde Street Home

At 6:15 p.m. Jan. 26, police and fire crews responded to Lynde Street for a report of a structure fire. The caller reported a working fire at 18 Lynde Street, according to police. The two-alarm fire was knocked down by crews about 15 minutes later, according to the reports. Firefighters from Wakefield, Reading, Malden, Everett, Revere and Saugus all assisted, according to Mike Moura, @NEFirebuff on Twitter.

Melrose Police responded to several calls for reports of breaking and entering at Island Hill Avenue apartments last week. 

At 8:35 p.m. Jan. 22, police were called to an Island Hill Avenue apartment for a report of a past breaking and entering. A report was taken.

At 6:49 p.m. Jan. 24, police responded to an Island Hill Avenue apartment for a report of a past breaking and entering. A report was taken. At 7:19 p.m., police called to another Island Hill Avenue apartment on a report of a past breaking and entering. A report was taken.

At 1:41 p.m. Jan. 25, police were called to an Island Hill Avenue apartment on a report of a past breaking and entering. A report was taken. Nearly five hours later, police return at 6:23 p.m. to another Island Hill Avenue apartment for a report of a past breaking and entering. A report was taken.

Two more calls about past breaking and enterings came in on Jan. 25 at 7:48 p.m. and 8:28 p.m., respectively. Reports were taken by police.

At 12:10 p.m. Jan. 26, police responded to an Island Hill Avenue apartment for a report of a past breaking and entering. A report was taken.

"These cases are still under investigation," said Lt. Mark DeCroteau in an email to Melrose Patch. "I can state several various items have been taken, but while it is under investigation, I can’t go into specifics just yet."

Jan. 21

9:11 a.m.: Cruiser no. 87 broke down in front of the police station, according to police. The cruiser was towed to the City Yard, according to police.

12:54 p.m.: Police responded to Melrose Street for a report of shoplifters. The alleged shoplifters were taken back to Walgreens and the matter was resolved, according to police.

3:08 p.m.: Police called to Hunts Terrace for a report of a hypodermic needle found in the area. The item was retrieved and disposed of properly, according to police.

4:57 p.m.: A Lebanon Street resident visited the police station to report a past larceny. A report was taken.

Jan. 22

8:33 a.m.: A motorist visited the police station to report a complaint that his truck was struck by train gates at Cedar Park on West Emerson Street, causing damage, according to police. MBTA Police were notified and responded to take a report.

8:36 a.m.: Police responded to Melrose High School for a report of a motor vehicle accident. State Police were on scene, according to police. No tows or transports logged.

11:35 a.m.: Police called to Melrose-Wakefield Hospital on a report of threats. The caller reported threats made against staff, according to police. A 34-year-old Melrose man was summonsed on a charge of disorderly conduct.

12:14 p.m.: Police responded to Melrose High School for a report of suspicious activity. A student reported receiving a suspicious email, according to police. A report was taken.

12:59 p.m.: Police called to West Wyoming Avenue for a report of a fire inside a home. The fire was extinguished, according to police.

7 p.m.: Police responded to the Melrose High School area for an animal complaint. A woman was walking her dog in the dog park when the dog was allegedly kicked by a man, according to police. No report was required, according to police.

Jan. 23

2:25 a.m.: Police responded Green Street for a report of a suspicious motor vehicle. The vehicle was towed, as the driver's insurance was revoked, according to police. A 48-year-old Melrose woman was summonsed on a charge of having an uninsured motor vehicle.

9:37 a.m.: Police called to Stephens Towing on Tremont Street for a report of a complaint. The caller reported cars broken into overnight, according to police.

11 a.m.: Police responded to North Mountain Avenue on a report of an assault. Police summonsed two Melrose men ages 23 and 46 on charges of assault and battery. 

12:04 p.m.: Police called to Melrose-Wakefield Hospital to serve a warrant. David Ciampo, 55, of 535 Main St., Melrose, was arrested on a warrant.

12:48 p.m.: Police responded to Green Street Pharmacy on a report of suspcious activity. A pharmacist reported what they believed to be a false prescription, according to police. Police summonsed a 32-year-old Saugus woman on a charge of uttering a false prescription.

2:41 p.m.: Police called to the Lynn Fells Parkway and Warwick Road area for a report of a motor vehicle accident. State Police were on scene, according to police. No tows or transports logged.

2:54 p.m.: Police responded to Washington Street on a report of a past domestic issue. Police summonsed a 15-year-old on charges of assault and battery and larceny over $250.

3:52 p.m.: Police called to Tappan Street on a report of a past breaking and entering. A report was taken.

8:59 p.m.: Police responded to Petrones on Main Street for a report of a possible counterfeit bill passed. A report was taken.

Jan. 24

12:16 p.m.: Police called to Main and Upham Streets for a report of motor vehicle accident. No tows or transports logged. A report was taken.

6:40 p.m.: Police responded to Mount Vernon Avenue on a report of a past breaking and entering. A report was taken.

9:52 p.m.: Police responded to Linden Road on a report of an outside fire. The fire was extinguished, according to police.

Jan. 25

10:18 a.m.: A person visited the police station to report a past hit and run motor vehicle accident near Shaw's Supermarket. A report was taken.

7:24 p.m.: Police called to Lynde Avenue for a complaint. The caller reported two white males allegedly duct taped her doorbell and front door, according to police. The males could not be located in the area, according to police.

7:25 p.m.: Police responded to Faulkner Place on a report of past threats. A report was taken.

Jan. 26

6:48 a.m.: Police called to Green Street for a report of a motor vehicle accident. Police summonsed a 26-year-old Lynn woman on charges of unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and marked lanes violation.

8:12 p.m.: Police responded to Sylvan Street for a report of a car stolen from the area. 

9:58 p.m.: Police called to the area of Church Street and Edmund Street for a report of a disturbance. Several 911 calls were made about a fight in the area, according to police. A report was taken.

Jan. 27

2:09 p.m.: Police responded to the area of First and Sixth Street for a report of men having a fight. One fled on foot, while the other was seen in a white SUV, according to police. The vehicle was towed, according to police. Police summonsed a 46-year-old Lynn man on charges of operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license and having an uninsured motor vehicle.

5:42 p.m.: Police called to Boardman Avenue on a report of a missing person. A report was taken.

6:22 p.m.: Police responded to Melrose-Wakefield Hospital on a report from Wakefield Police about an alleged restraining order violation at the hospital. Police summonsed a 58-year-old Wakefield man on a charge of violating an abuse prevention order.
