Melrose Police Make Five Arrests on Domestic Assault Charges

Last week, Melrose Police arrested five people on domestic assault charges, including one arrest where a swat team was called in on Saturday—due to the presence of firearms in a home—to assist taking a man into custody. (.) In none of the five cases was an ambulance called or anyone required medical treatment at the scene.

In addition to that arrest on Saturday, on Wednesday, Feb. 9 at 1:31 p.m., Melrose Police responded to a call about a domestic disturbance on Linwood Avenue. Melrose Police Lt. Mark DeCroteau said a verbal altercation between two family members escalated into a physical altercation. Lisa R. Centorino, 42, 480 Torrington Road, Litchfield, CT, was arrested and charged with domestic assault and battery.

On Thursday, Feb. 10 at 12:22 p.m., Melrose Police received a 911 hang-up call from a home on Ryder Avenue. When officers responded to the address to verify the hang-up and check on the well-being of the people there, they were met by a woman and her son, with the woman visibly upset, DeCroteau said. After interviewing both people, the officer arrested Andrew F. Brienze, 18, 53 Ryder Ave., Melrose, on the charge of domestic assault and battery.

On Sunday, Feb. 13 at 9:55 a.m., Melrose Police responded to a call about a domestic disturbance on Ashland Street and spoke to a mother and her 15-year-old son, who had an argument over an appointment the son was supposed to attend. DeCroteau said the argument escalated into physical violence and the 15-year-old was placed under arrest on charges of domestic assault and battery.

Also on Sunday, at 9:01 p.m., State Police redirected a 911 cell phone call to Melrose Police, with the caller from Meridian Street telling police that an argument had escalated to a physical assault, DeCroteau said. Kelly Marrero, 33, 93 Meridian St., Apt. 1, Melrose, was arrested on the charge of domestic assault and battery.

 Overdose On Indian Hill Lane

Monday, Feb. 7, 3:01 p.m. A caller stated that his girlfriend had possibly overdosed. DeCroteau said that she was treated on scene by EMTs and transported by ambulance to Melrose-Wakefield Hospital, and that there was no substance on the scene according to the police report.

CVS Shoplifters Summonsed To Court

Saturday, Feb. 12, 6:58 p.m. The manager of CVS called Melrose Police about two suspicious people attempting to shoplift. The officer who responded interviewed the man and woman who raised the manager's suspicion and both had "several items they had placed under their clothing," DeCroteau said. Also, "drug paraphernalia" fell out of a pocket book while they were leaving the store.

DeCroteau said that both people were cooperative and provided information to Melrose Police officers, including positive ID, without incident. The 33-year-old Malden man and 33-year-old Melrose woman were issued summonses on charges of shoplifting merchandise worth more than $100 by concealment.

Monday, Feb. 7, 8:30 a.m. A Bay State Road resident reported that while he was away, someone tried to break into his house.

Tuesday, Feb. 8, 12:38 p.m. A Grove Street resident reported vandalism damage to her vehicle.

Tuesday, Feb. 8, 9:52 p.m. A caller reported a domestic disturbance at a Pleasant Street home.

Thursday, Feb. 10, 9:08 a.m. A Tremont Street resident reported threats.

Thursday, Feb. 10, 10:49 a.m. Multiple wires reported down at Green Street and Lynn Fells Parkway. Officer reported cable and telephone wires frozen in the snow.

Thursday, Feb. 10, 2:21 p.m. Report of a backhoe placing snow on a shoveled sidewalk on Corey Street. Contractor said he will clean up sidewalk.

Saturday, Feb. 12, 6:43 p.m. A Main Street resident reported that her cat was being held by a neighbor. She was referred to animal control.

Saturday, Feb. 12, 10:13 p.m. Report of a drunk male walking in the street at Pleasant Street and Everett Street. The youth brought into the police station while waiting for his parents.

Sunday, Feb. 13, 5:19 p.m. An East Emerson Street resident reported a past breaking and entering.

Other Arrests and Summonses:

A 25-year-old Melrose man was placed under warrant arrest on Wednesday, Feb. 9.

A 22-year-old Melrose man was issued a summons on Wednesday, Feb. 9 on the charge of driving with a revoked registration.

William Wingerter, 21, 191 Columbia St., Malden, was arrested on Thursday, Feb. 10 on charges of driving with a suspended license, speeding in violation of special regulation, and failing to stop for police.

A 25-year-old Melrose man was issued a summons on Friday, Feb. 11 on charges of breaking and entering in the daytime for a felony, larceny over $250, and larceny under $250.

A 20-year-old Woburn woman was issued a summons on Sunday, Feb. 13 on charges of assault and battery and leaving the scene of property damage.
