Melrose Man Arrested On Third OUI Charge

Sunday, July 17, 9:45 p.m. A 54-year-old Melrose man was arrested on charges of a third OUI-alcohol offense and negligent operation of a motor vehicle after he allegedly crashed into a parked vehicle at 333 Washington St.

Melrose Police received several 911 calls after the accident, Melrose Police Lt. Mark DeCroteau said. Responding officers found a gray 2002 Buick LeSabre with the driver, Richard C. Perling of 42 Frances St. in Melrose, sitting in the passenger seat with the air bags deployed.

Perling refused medical treatment at the scene and after an interview and investigation, Melrose Police officers placed him under arrest on the previously stated charges.

Alleged Foodmaster Meat Thief Summonsed to Court

Wednesday, July 13, 4:55 p.m. A manager at alleges that a 54-year-old Peabody man shoplifted several packages of meat from the store, while the man denies even being inside the store.

The store manager told Melrose Police that a customer reported seeing a man exit the store with several packages of meat in the child seat section of a shopping cart, DeCroteau said. The manager alleges that when he went outside, he saw the man placing the meat into a cooler and approached him. The man denied being in the store at all.

Along with a Melrose Police investigation, video footage from the store's surveillance camera and the man's plate number, the manager was able to contact the man at home, DeCroteau said. The man came into the police station and still denied taking anything from the store.

The man has been issued a summons for larceny to set the matter up for a court hearing, DeCroteau said.

Bag Containing Marijuana Found In Roosevelt School Yard

Tuesday, July 12, 9:54 a.m. staff reported to Melrose Police that a student in one of the summer programs running at the school found a small baggie in the school yard containing a green, leafy substance.

DeCroteau said the substance was believed to be marijuana. It was taken by Melrose Police and "going to be processed for destruction," he said.

9:05 p.m. Medical examiner’s office reports that their vehicle is being followed and harassed by another driver. Officers respond; car broke off before medical examiner’s van got to hospital.

Friday, July 15

12:19 p.m. Larceny by credit/debit card reported from Tappan Street.

7:10 p.m. Walk-in report of cash taken from drawer in Lynde Street home.

10:16 p.m. Driver reports kids threw egg from moving vehicle at his moving vehicle, driver followed vehicle until West Wyoming at Hurd. Stoneham Police located car in question, father of driver of that car offered have other car cleaned.

Saturday, July 16

9:57 a.m. Report of damage to vehicle at Melrose Towers on Melrose Street.

12:37 p.m. Report that a man 40-50 years old in a greenish blue conversation van asked children on Linwood Avenue to get into van to assist him in finding his dog. Police checked area, could not find vehicle matching that description.

12:51 p.m. Caller from Crescent Avenue reports window broken in vehicle.

2:50 p.m. Resident found bike on Belmont Street near the train tracks; red, specialized Sirrus road bike with flat front tire. Tagged and placed in garage

12:58 p.m. Past breaking and entering reported from Bratley Street.

Other Arrests and Summonses

A 15-year-old girl was placed under a CHINS (Child in Need of Services) warrant arrest on Monday, July 11.

Bradley Ferragamo, 21, 49 Golden Hills Road, Saugus, and Andrews Servizio, 21, 40 Sutcliffe Road, Apt. 5, Lynn, were each placed under arrest on Tuesday, July 12 on the charge of disorderly conduct.

Jaafar Abouchmcha, 44, 35 Hurd St., Apt. 2, Melrose, was arrested on Tuesday, July 12 on the charge of assault and battery.

A 54-year-old Melrose man was placed under warrant arrest on Sunday, July 17.

Garry Cinfinix, 32, 133 Waverly Ave., Apt. 15, Melrose, was arrested on Sunday, July 17 on the charge of domestic assault and battery.
