Melrose Man Faces Drunk Driving Charge

At 1:37 a.m. Feb. 8, Melrose Police responded to Woodcrest Drive on a report of a suspicious vehicle in the area. Keith Michael Hujsak, 29, of 119 West Wyoming Ave. Apt. #1, Melrose, was arrested and charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence of intoxicting liquor and failing to signal. A report was taken.

Feb. 4

2:32 p.m.: Police responded to Clifford Street for a complaint. The caller reported seeing two male parties running to a gray vehicle with items in hand before driving off in the direction of Lynn Fells Parkway, according to police. A report was taken.

10:10 p.m.: Police called to a Mount Vernon Street apartment for a report of a carbon monoxide alarm going off. No transports logged.

Feb. 5

1:59 p.m.: Police responded to Washington Street on a complaint. The caller reported a person wearing a vest with lime green sleeves going door-to-door, according to police. The solicitor was told by police to register with the city before going door-to-door.

6:28 p.m.: Police assisted Stoneham Police in a search for a stolen vehicle, which was described as blue Honda Accord. GPS coordinates placed the vehicle in the vicinity of Lynn Fells Parkway and Main Street, according to police. However, the vehicle reportedly moved on to Saugus.

Feb. 6

7:03 a.m.: Police responded to the area of Main and Upham Streets for a report of a motor vehicle accident. No injuries or tows logged. A report was taken.

8:53 a.m.: Police called to Wyoming Hill Crossing on West Wyoming Avenue on a complaint. Police received a report of the train gate being struck by a vehicle. MBTA and Mass Bay were notified and responded, according to police.

1:39 p.m.: Police responded to Clifford Street for a report of a past larceny. A report was taken.

Feb. 7

12:22 a.m.: Police called to Franklin Street for a report of a carbon monoxide alarm. No transports logged. A report was taken.

11:30 a.m.: Police received a complaint from an Elm Street resident about a telephone scam. A report was taken.

12:43 p.m.: Police responded to Ravine Road for a report of a breaking and entering into a home. The front door was kicked in, but nothing logged as stolen, according to police. A report was taken.

1:54 p.m.: Police called to Shaw's Supermarket following a complaint about an employee allegedly shoplifting. A 33-year-old Melrose man was summonsed on a charge of shoplifting more than $100 by asportation.

5:18 p.m.: Police responded to a Pleasant Street apartment on a report of a strong odor of gas inside the residence. Gas was detected and the Fire Department contacted National Grid, according to police.

5:48 p.m.: Police called to the area of Upham Street and Ardsmoor Road on a report of a motor vehicle hit-and-run accident. A report was taken.

6:15 p.m.: Police responded to Melrose Mobil Station on Main Street for a report of a motor vehicle accident. No tows or transports logged. A report was taken.

6:33 p.m.: Police called to the area of Easter Foster Street and Highview Avenue on a report of a motor vehicle hit-and-run accident. A report was taken.

7:05 p.m.: A Thirteenth Street resident visited the police station to report fraud. A report was taken. 

7:08 p.m.: A Grove Street resident visited the police station to report a larceny. A report was taken.

7:13 p.m.: A person visited the police station to report a hit-and-run motor vehicle accident at the intersection of Main and Grove Streets. A report was taken.

Feb. 8

9:32 a.m.: Police responded to Melrose High School for a report of a stolen cell phone. A report was taken.

12:28 p.m.: A person visited the police substation at City Hall to file a complaint about a possible scam. A detective sergeant was notified, and a report was filed, according to police.

9:21 p.m.: Police received a complaint about a manhole cover coming off on Elliott Street. Department of Public Works was notified, according to police.

Feb. 9

12:02 p.m.: Police responded to a West Wyoming Avenue apartment on a report of a past hit-and-run motor vehicle accident. A report was taken.

12:15 p.m.: Police called to the intersection of Upham and Lebanon Streets for a report of a motor vehicle accident. DPW reports accident occurred during snow driving ban, according to police. A 34-year-old Revere man was summonsed on charges of negligent operation of a motor vehicle and failing to stop/yield. A report was taken.

7:32 p.m.: Police responded to Clarendon Street on several reports of a domestic disturbance. A 56-year-old Melrose man was summonsed on a charge of threatening to commit a crime. 

Feb. 10

11:44 a.m.: Police responded to an apartment at Newburyport Turnpike for a report of threats. The caller reported being threatened by someone on their private phone, according to police. A report was taken.

1:13 p.m.: Police called to RD's Deli & Market on Franklin Street for a report of vandalism. The caller reported that glass in the door was broken, according to police. A report was taken.

1:27 p.m.: Police responded to the intersection of East Foster Street and Leonard Road for a report of a minor motor vehicle accident. No report necessary, according to police.

2:19 p.m.: Police responded to a West Highland Avenue apartment for a report of an assault. The caller reported that her landlord tried to attack her, according to police. A 61-year-old Melrose man was summonsed on a charge of assault and battery. A report was taken.

4:04 p.m.: Police called to Vine Street on a report of smoke filling the caller's home. Firefighters also responded, according to police. 

4:46 p.m.: Police received a call about a one-foot crater that formed near Upham and Rowe Streets following a water main break. DPW was notified, according to police.

6:57 p.m.: A DPW employee visited the police substation to report a sidewalk plow that hit New England Bakery and broke a window. A report was taken.

10:20 p.m.: Police responded to Orchard Lane for a report of a carbon monoxide alarms going off and indicating an error. Police contacted the Fire Department.

Feb. 11

6:06 a.m.: Police responded to Youle Street for a report of a motor vehicle accident. A car struck a snowbank and had to be towed from the scene, according to police. DPW was expected to salt the road, according to police.
