In the first case, police responded on Tuesday, April 19 at 5:32 p.m. to a report of possible indecent exposure on Tremont Street. Melrose Police Lt. Mark DeCroteau said the incident actually involved a possible assault that took place in a car parked in the lot of a Tremont Street business.

The business owner reported to police that an acquaintance "had an interaction with a male party who had been in there (the business)" inquiring about the business' services, DeCroteau said. The alleged victim is an adult woman and DeCroteau declined to comment further because the case is still under investigation.

In the second case, Melrose Police received a walk-in report on Friday, April 22 of an alleged past indecent assault and battery on a child under 14. DeCroteau again declined to comment further because the case is still under investigation, but did say that the victim is not a Melrose resident.

Dog Allegedly Attacks and Kills Other Dog

Saturday, April 23, 10:25 a.m. An alleged fatal attack by a larger dog on a smaller dog is under investigation.

The caller who reported the attack told Melrose Police he was walking his dog near the middle school when another large dog came along and attacked his smaller dog, DeCroteau said. The smaller dog was taken to the animal hospital but did not survive.

Later that day, at 4:30 p.m., Melrose Police assisted Animal Control Officer Diane Kurkjian at a home on Vinton Street for an animal surrender related to the attack earlier in the day, DeCroteau said.

"They have quarantine it (the dog) if something like that takes place," he said. "It looks like the owner cooperated."

Kurkjian said she could not comment on the incident because it remains under investigation.

East Emerson Street Home Broken Into During Afternoon Via Broken Basement Window

Saturday, 3:10 p.m. Melrose Police responded to a house alarm sounding on East Emerson Street and found one of the home's basement windows had been broken and propped open from the inside by a ladder.

DeCroteau said at the time of the report, the only item reported as missing is a boy's Diamondback BMX bicycle.

"There were a couple of witnesses that saw a male party looking at different residences down there," he said. "Neighbors came home and saw a male party leaving the area. He was described as white male, wearing a Red Sox jacket and hospital scrub pants. We checked the area to no avail and could not locate him. The detective bureau is following up on this."
