Recovered Stolen Car Involved In Hit and Run the Previous Day

Sunday, March 20, 5:18 p.m. A caller reported that a vehicle had been parked in front of a Country Club Road home for the past two days, and when an officer responded and ran the license plate, the yellow Jeep turned out as having been reported as stolen out of Lynn. The car was towed.

Melrose Police Lt. Mark DeCroteau said that the officer who responded noted that the Jeep had damage that was consistent with a hit and run accident involving another vehicle that was reported on Green Street on Saturday afternoon, and that the vehicle matched the description given for that accident.

Copper Downspouts Stolen from Melrose Public Library

Monday, March 14, 10:57 a.m. Staff at the reported that some time over the weekend, two large copper downspouts attached to the rear of the library had been stolen. DeCroteau confirmed that the copper has value at scrap metal yards.

12:34 p.m. Walk-in report of a past assault in front of First Baptist Church on Main Street. A verbal argument escalated between two people and remains under investigation, DeCroteau said.

Tuesday, March 15

9:56 a.m. Police notified DPW that “Do Not Enter” sign was missing from Holland Road.

7:27 p.m. Past break into motor vehicle on Banks Place.

8:30 p.m. Another past break into motor vehicle on Banks Place.

Wednesday, March 16

11:28 a.m. Walk-in report from Winter Street Extension of possible flim flam.

Friday, March 18

3 p.m. Reported telephone pole down on Franklin Street.

Saturday, March 19

8:57 a.m. Hit and run accident at Melrose-Wakefield Hospital.

9:01 a.m. Goodyear Avenue resident reports Stop sign taken from its location and left on her property.

Sunday, March 20

9 a.m. Report that train gate at Franklin Street and Belmont Street has been knocked over. MBTA Police responded.

Monday, March 21

6:38 a.m. Resident of Greenwood Street apartment building reports past assault.  Verbal altercation between two residents being investigated for possible physical assault, DeCroteau said.

Other Arrests and Summonses

A 29-year-old Melrose man was issued a summons on Monday, March 14 on charges of assault and battery (two counts) and intimidating a witness.

A 37-year-old Medford man was placed in protective custody on Monday, March 14.

Nuno F. Porto, 28, 39 Berwick St., Apt. 2R, Melrose, was arrested on Monday, March 14 on charges of assault and battery, intimidating a witness and two warrants.

Justin R. Kady, 29, 90 Perkins St., Stoneham, was arrested on Thursday, March 17 on charges of shoplifting by concealing merchandise and possession of a Class E drug.

A 23-year-old Arlington man was issued a summons on Thursday, March 17 on the charge of threat to commit a crime.

Christopher Gelormini, 36, 21 Greenwood St., Apt. 11, Melrose, was arrested on Friday, March 18 on charges of assault and battery and intimidating a witness.
