Police Log: Teen Fight Leads to Summonses, Fridge Left for Donation is Stolen

Teens Fight, Summonses Issued

Friday, July 8, 8:43 p.m. Two 16-year-olds were issued summonses for assault and battery after Melrose Police responded to on Main Street after a woman reported a young man bleeding.

Melrose Police Lt. Mark DeCroteau said that officers found a teenager bleeding from the head after being struck during the fight that, based on witnesses, was between 4-5 teenagers. The victim was taken to for his injury.

"(He)  did not see what he was struck with, but it’s believed that it’s some sort of object" rather than a fist or foot, DeCroteau said.

One 16-year-old was issued a summons for assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and another 16-year-old was issued a summons for assault and battery, and the incident remains under investigation, DeCroteau said.

Fridge Left in Driveway for Donation and Stolen

Wednesday, July 6, 3:01 p.m. A West Highland resident reported they left a refrigerator in their driveway to be donated, but believed someone—whether scrap metal collectors or otherwise—stole the fridge, DeCroteau said.

The erstwhile owners of the fridge called and verified that the people who had been scheduled to pick up the refrigerator for donation had not picked it up, DeCroteau said.

9:33 a.m. Assist Malden Court probation with warrant on Forest Street.

11:31 a.m. Assist State Juvenile Department with summons service on Vine Street.

4:21 p.m. Person reports she lost a white envelope of money in the parking lot behind . The envelope says “Melrose Senior Center” or “Council on Aging” and has $40 inside.

Thursday, July 7

12:54 p.m. Domestic disturbance at Main Street apartment.

8:02 p.m. Domestic disturbance on Cargill Street. Officer reports verbal argument only.

9:17 p.m. Caller reported hitting a dog with her vehicle on Essex Street.

Friday, July 8

1:57 p.m. Animal control request police assistance with a raccoon at Pine Banks Park.

Saturday, July 9

8:41 a.m. Report of injured turkey, possibly struck by vehicle, at Ashland Street and Henry Avenue.

10:21 a.m. Three-car motor vehicle accident on Lynn Fells Parkway, State Police took control of scene.

6:45 p.m. Walk-in report of harassment.

8:44 p.m. Security guard at Oak Grove Village reports threats. Matter settled between guard and guest.

Sunday, July 10

3:09 a.m. Malden Police reports car crashed into tree on Penney Road and abandoned.

11:25 a.m. Car and motorcycle accident on Lynn Fells Parkway. Transferred to State Police.

7:52 p.m. Walk-in report of vandalism damage to car on Banks Place. 

Other Arrests and Summonses

A 45-year-old Melrose man was issued a summons on Friday, July 8 on the charge of threat to commit a crime.

A 44-year-old Revere man was issued a summons on Saturday, July 9 on charges of assault, malicious destruction of property worth more than $250 and threat to commit a crime.

A 34-year-old Melrose woman was issued a summons on Sunday, July 10 on the charge of assault and battery and, from the same incident, a 19-year-old Melrose man was issued a summons on charges of assault and battery and threat to commit a crime.
