Saturday, July 30, 8:35 p.m. A 55-year-old Melrose woman who backed out of a lot parking spot into a Melrose Police cruiser was subsequently arrested on the charge of operating under the influence of alcohol.

After determining there were no injuries, the officer spoke with with Temples and based on his observations and interview, placed her under arrest on the OUI charge.

Possible Firework Explosion in Port-a-Potty Under Investigation

Sunday, July 31, 9:31 p.m. An officer in the parking lot across from on Tremont Street heard a loud noise, like an explosion, and after speaking to some people who also heard the noise, found a port-a-potty next to the field that had a heavy amount of smoke coming out of it, DeCroteau said.

After notifying the Melrose Fire Department, the officer opened the portable toilet and found "extensive damage from some type of explosion," DeCroteau said. Several witnesses gave a description of kids in their early teens seen leaving the area of the field; people matching those descriptions were found a short while later by police.

DeCroteau said there could be charges filed depending on any potential resolution reached with the company that owns the port-a-potty.
