Raccoon a Suspect in Attempted Home Break-in in Melrose?

At 10:55 p.m. Aug. 21, Melrose police responded to Sheffield Road for a report of a possible past breaking and entering into a home, according to a police log. The investigating officer reported that a raccoon was the suspect in the attempted breaking and entering, the log adds.

Aug. 19

8:19 a.m.: Police called to Melrose Veterans Memorial Middle School on Lynn Fells Parkway for a report of vandalism, according to a police log. The caller reported damage to the property, according to the log.

10:14 a.m.: Police respond to Melrose Towers Condominiums on Melrose Street for a report of fraudulent credit card use, according to a police log. 

11:36 a.m.: Police called to the area of Lebanon and Upham Streets for a report of an accident, according to a police log. No tows or transports logged. Drivers exchanged information, according to the log.

6:30 p.m.: A person visited the police station to report vandalism to a vehicle, according to a police log. The person claimed that a vehicle parked outside Mother's Pizza was vandalized, according to the log. 

8:13 p.m.: Police responded to the area of Stone Place and Pleasant Street for a report of an accident, according to a police log. No tow or transports logged. 

9:28 p.m.: Police called to Washington and Pleasant Streets area for several reports of an accident, according to a police log. No tows or transports logged.

10:31 p.m.: Police responded to Green Street for a report of kids egging cars in the area, according to a police log. 

Aug. 20

1:40 a.m.: Police responded to North Mountain Avenue for a report of a suspicious vehicle, according to a police log. A woman claimed a suspicious vehicle was parked in front of her driveway, according to the log. Police conducted a vehicle check and it turned out to be a vehicle stolen from Somerville, according to the log. The vehicle was towed from the scene, the log adds.

4:43 a.m.: Police called to Dexter Road for a report of suspicious activity, according to a police log. The caller claimed that someone was going through her vehicle, according to the log. The suspect could not be located, according to the log. 

8:43 a.m.: Police responded to St. Mary's rectory for a report of a robbery, according to a police log. 

11:05 a.m.: Police called to Lynn Fells Parkway for a report of a BB shot through a window, according to a police log. 

4:11 p.m.: Police responded to Hesseltine Avenue on a report by Verizon of a small hydro oil spill on the street, according to a police log. 

4:29 p.m.: Police responded to Cottage Park for a report of a breaking and entering, according to a police log. The caller told police that a man broke into his house and is still inside, according to the log. A 32-year-old Melrose man was summonsed on a misdemeanor charge of breaking and entering.

7:35 p.m.: Police called to the area of Dexter Road and Swains Pond Avenue for a report of a hit-and-run accident, according to a police log. 

9:58 p.m.: Boston police contacted Melrose police about a woman allegedly being held against her will on Maple Street, according to a police log. 

Aug. 21

4:25 p.m.: Police responded to Rite Aid on Main Street for a report of shoplifting, according to a police log. A Rite Aid loss prevention officer told police that a man and woman, both appeared to be in their 20s, with the man wearing a white shirt and the woman wearing a yellow top and white pants, were allegedly stealing hair products, according to the log. A short time later, police received a call about a man dragging a woman in yellow clothing down the street, according to the log. The suspects could not be located. Police obtained photos of the suspects, according to the log. 

7:35 p.m.: Police called to Melrose Shell gas station on Main Street for a report of a possible assault, according to a police log.
