State Police Identify Melrose Woman Seriously Injured in Stoneham Accident

A Melrose woman who suffered "life-threatening injuries" in a motor vehicle accident in Stoneham Saturday morning has been identified by State Police as Diane Daniel.

A Melrose woman who suffered "life-threatening injuries" in a motor vehicle accident in Stoneham Saturday morning has been identified by State Police as Diane Daniel.

As of 1:45 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 10, Daniel, 38, was listed in critical condition at Massachusetts General Hospital, according to State Police.

According to State Police, troopers were called to the intersection of Rt. 28 at South Street on a report of a two-vehicle accident at 8:15 a.m. Nov. 9. Witnesses told the responding troopers that a man, identified Sunday by State Police as Gareth J. Byrne, 36, of Weymouth, may have failed to stop his 2005 GMC Sierra pickup at a red light, striking Daniel's 2008 Toyota Camry at the intersection, sending it into a fence adjacent to the roadway.

A 38-year-old Melrose woman suffered "life-threatening injuries" after a Weymouth man reportedly failed to stop for a red light and struck the woman's vehicle in Stoneham on Saturday morning, Nov. 9, according to Massachusetts State Police. 

Several witnesses said the 36-year-old male driver did not stop for a red light before he slammed into a car driven by the woman, according to a report on wcvb.com.

According to State Police, troopers responded to the intersection of Rt. 28 at South St. for a reported two-vehicle accident at  8:15 a.m. Multiple witnesses told the responding troopers that the Weymouth man may have failed to stop for a red light, striking the victim's vehicle in the intersection, sending it into a fence adjacent to the roadway.  

The Stoneham Fire Department pulled the victim out the car and she was transported by Stoneham EMS to Massachusetts General Hospital with life-threatening injuries.  

The investigation is currently ongoing with the assistance of troopers from the Massachusetts State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section and Crime Scene Services Section, according to the State Police.
