Flag Burning Ceremony

Mayor Rob Dolan and the City of Melrose Veterans Services Department, along with the assistance of Local Girl Scout Troop #71238 and the 182nd Unit of the Massachusetts National Guard respectfully announce that a special ceremony on Saturday, November 13 will be held for the proper disposal of flags that have been worn, damaged or tattered beyond repair. 

In accordance with the United States Code, Title 36, Chapter 10, Section 176 "Respect For Flag" (k) "The flag, when it is in such condition that it is no longer a fitting emblem for display, should be destroyed in a dignified way, preferably by burning."

The public is encouraged to attend this special service of tribute, memory and love for our American Flag.  The ceremony will be held at 10:00 am at the Wyoming Cemetery in Melrose on Saturday, November 13.  If you have any worn, damaged or flags that are tattered beyond repair, you may bring them with you to the ceremony on the 13th or drop them by Friday, November 12 at the Veterans Office located on the first floor of MelroseCity Hall.
