Hundreds of events are posted on Melrose Patch each week, but how often does one pass you by that you wish you hadn't missed? Each week Melrose Patch will give you a quick reminder about an event, an important sign-up, or a looming deadline you won't want to forget.
Information provided by Memorial Hall and the City of Melrose:
The Memorial Day parade is this Sunday, May 20, coinciding with the 100th anniversary celebrations of the Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hall Building in downtown Melrose.
On Friday, May 18, Melrose veterans and the general public are invited to an evening of music to honor veterans, soldiers, and their families, featuring the United States Air Force Band of Liberty. The concert begins at 7 p.m. Admission is free but a ticket is required; tickets are available at the Melrose Public Library, the Mayor’s Office, the Milano Senior Center, and the Veteran Services Office.
Set to take place on Saturday, May 19 at Memorial Hall is a black and white gala celebration that harkens back to the sounds of the hall in its youth with the sounds of 18-piece big band orchestra, Dan Gabel and the Abletones. In keeping with the glamour of yesteryear, evening attire is encouraged for guests.
Tickets are $35 and include a night full of dancing, wonderful finger foods and two cash bars. Tickets are now on sale at Sweet Thoughts (504 Main St., Melrose), C21 Sexton & Donohue (29 Essex St., Melrose) and at Memorial Hall (562 Main St., Melrose). Tickets will not be sold at the door on the evening of the event, so advanced tickets are a must.
