Mayor Dolan Welcomes Whole Foods to Melrose

Melrose Mayor Rob Dolan recently thanked Foodmaster Supermarkets for their business and at the same time welcomed Whole Foods Market to Melrose following reports that Whole Foods will purchase Foodmaster.

"On behalf of the citizens of Melrose, I would like to welcome Whole Foods to the community," said Dolan in a press statement. "I am excited that Whole Foods has chosen Melrose as a location as they expand their presence into the Greater Boston area. I would also like to give a heartfelt thank you to John DeJesus, owner of Johnnie’s Foodmaster, for all he and his business have given to the community over the years. I look forward to building a similar relationship with Whole Foods, as well as the new owners of Towers Plaza, as they join our thriving local business community."

Whole Foods Market has agreed to become the tenant for the six Foodmaster locations in Melrose, Arlington, Charlestown, Brookline, South Weymouth and Beacon Street in Somerville, according to the press statements from Whole Foods and Foodmaster. Interviews will be offered to all of six stores’ employees with the goal of hiring as many as possible, the statements noted.

In late August, Whole Foods was reportedly interested in purchasing Johnnie's Foodmaster locations.
