Medeiros, Lavender Bird, Conn Jr., McAteer Margolis Win Alderman At-Large Race

Three incumbents and a newcomer were elected as alderman at-large during Tuesday's biennial election in Melrose.

Contested Races


Alderman At-Large


Of the seven candidates vying for four two-year seats as alderman at-large, Monica Medeiros was the top vote-getter with 2,403 votes, followed by Jaclyn Lavender Bird (2,268 votes), Donald Conn Jr. (2,215) and Mary Beth McAteer Margolis with 2,092 votes. Three of the four elected were incumbents except for Medeiros who was running for the first time as an at-large candidate.

Meanwhile, alderman at-large candidates Michael Zwirko (2,042 votes), George Doyle (1,396) and incumbent Ronald Seaboyer (1,379) were not elected.

School Committee

In the School Committee race, seven candidates were seeking three four-year seats. The leading vote-getter was Jessica Dugan with 2,215 votes, followed by Christine Casatelli (2,043 votes) and incumbent Carrie Kourkoumelis with 1,612. All three were elected to the committee, while Lizbeth DeSelm (1,421 votes), Jason Kraunelis (1,176), Edward O'Connell (1,069) and Gerald Mroz (965) were not elected.

Ward 2 Alderman

Jennifer Lemmerman won the Ward 2 Alderman race, capturing 391 votes, beating James Bradley (225 votes), David Buonopane (155) and Dale Henry Parsons with 54.

Ward 4 Alderman

In the Ward 4 Alderman race, Robert Boisselle beat Bruce Carmichael, 362-263.

Ward 7 Alderman

In the race for Ward 7 Alderman, Scott Forbes (495 votes) defeated Mario Portillo (143) and Richard Costa with 56.
