Melrose Could Share IT Services with Saugus

The City of Melrose and the Town of Saugus are considering an IT regionalization agreement that would see Melrose provide infrastructure and data services to Saugus.

Melrose and Saugus officials are finalizing the provisions of a regionalization agreement that would see the latter pay the former for certain IT and data services.

The proposal will go before the Melrose Board of Aldermen at their June 17 meeting and the Saugus Board of Selectmen on June 18.

“This agreement will be mutually beneficial to both our communities,” Melrose Mayor Rob Dolan wrote in an email.

“By sharing our expertise as well as server space, we are able to take advantage of the economies of scale that modern computers make possible. This will allow Saugus to upgrade its services without making significant capital expenditures on its computer infrastructure.”

It wouldn't be the first time the city provided those services to another municipality - Melrose entered a similar agreement with the Town of Essex in 2011.
