Melrose Man Announces Candidacy for Board of Aldermen

Find out who is joining the race for a seat on the Melrose Board of Aldermen.

[Editor's note: The following Letter to the Editor was submitted by Scott Forbes, a candidate for the Melrose Board of Aldermen.]

My name is Scott Forbes and I am running for Alderman in Ward 7. As a 30-year resident of Melrose, I attended the former Washington and Ripley schools, actively participated in Melrose youth athletics, and graduated Melrose High School in 1992. My fiancé Susan (MHS Class of 1995) and I are happy to call 124 Linwood Avenue our home, where we raise my daughter Abygail (age 11) and son Jackson, (age 8).

For the past 5 years, I’ve been employed at McLarney & Company, LLC in Chelmsford. As part of their accounting team, my experience includes individual/corporate income tax returns, compliance examinations, company audits, and client payrolls. Prior to McLarney & Company, I specialized in residential mortgage lending at MASSBANK for 16 years. I believe my financial background can be a valuable asset, providing the Board of Aldermen with a fresh perspective on issues that impact the community.

I am a Master Sergeant in the United States Air Force Reserves, currently serving as an Air Transportation Craftsman with the 58th Aerial Port Squadron, Westover Air Reserve Base, Chicopee. My 18 years of service has taken me all over the world, most recently to Mazar E Shariff, Afghanistan in 2012. My experience in the USAF has provided opportunities for me to serve in a senior leadership role, make mission critical decisions, and truly understand the importance of working together to complete the task at hand.

I enjoy being an active part of the community. My family is always more than happy to participate in fundraising events that benefit the Hoover School, and our Friends of Melrose High School athletic programs. As a member of the Melrose Veterans Advisory Board, we collaborated with the Melrose Veterans Memorial Middle School this year to raise funds for Operation Thank You; a successful effort that sent our local area Vietnam Veterans and several middle school students to Washington, D.C. to visit our national monuments.

I am running for Alderman simply because I care about our neighborhood. I am excited and enthusiastic at the opportunity to become a part of the decision making process that will keep moving Melrose in the right direction. As your Ward 7 Alderman, I promise to work hard and continue to be an active voice for the community. Thank you for your consideration, and I hope to see you at the polls in November!
