Melrosians weren't the only people opposed to the proposed ban. On Wednesday afternoon, the Herald reported that state House of Representatives overturned the ban by passing an amendment that leaves it up to local school committees whether to adopt the Department of Public Health rules.

Then, the Boston Globe reported that on Thursday the Senate then also passed an amendment overturning the ban and Gov. Deval Patrick directed public health officials to exclude classrooms and fundraising events from the new nutrition rules.
