Snow Removal Taking Place Overnight on Monday

DPW will work overnight in targeted areas on Monday night only to clear sidewalks and roadways.

If you hear some loud banging on Monday night, it's only the DPW.

The will be working overnight "due to the extraordinary amount of snow that has fallen over the past several weeks" to clear sidewalks and roadways, according to a message sent out via the city's CodeRed automated phone messaging system.

Mike Lindstrom, director of community services for the Mayor's Office, said that the city sent the phone message to just under 600 residents in "targeted" neighborhoods where work will be taking place tonight.

"It's several targeted areas identified by the Melrose Police, Public Works and the School Department," Lindstrom said. "Around the schools, the business districts, walking routes, Main Street and smaller business areas."

The work will take place "tonight only and must be completed during nighttime hours when vehicles and pedestrians are not in the roadways," the message stated, "to ensure safety for children walking to school and for vehicles entering and exiting roadways and intersections."

Lindstrom also reiterated that the work will only take place on Monday night.

"We appreciate your cooperation as we make our roads and sidewalks as safe as possible during this difficult winter season," the message concluded.
