Summer Reading: Software Upgrade?

What's on your summer reading list?

Do you need a software upgrade? We all do, and what and how we learn shape our daily improvement. Summer is coming; what's on your summer reading list?

If you were stranded on a desert island and could only have a few books, what would they be?  Honestly, a survival guide might come in very handy, and a Peterson’s Field Guide to Birds would be fun, but let’s face it, basketball books won’t rate highly. I won’t list religious texts, because they are too personal. I’ve never believed a Supreme Being chooses sides in a pickup game.

But day to day, we are “stranded” within our own limitations, and benefit from expanding our minds to cope with whatever challenges we face. We need viable philosophies to mold our self-assessment, bringing energy to our ‘play’ and those around us, and understanding to those around us.

Hoop Thoughts. This is much more about life than basketball.

Books.

Man’s Search for Meaning, Viktor Frankl…coping with life’s major traumas...it should be mandatory reading for every citizen.

The Energy Bus, Jon Gordon…energize yourself.

In These Girls, Hope Is a Muscle, Madeleine Blais…a masterful story wonderfully written by a UMASS journalism professor. It's the prose, the relationships, and the story that recommend this book.

10-Minute Toughness, Jason Selk…sports psychology that offers you a program to follow not just platitudes

The Compound Effect, Darren Hardy…get a little better every day.

Patch readers - what's on your list? Take a moment to share.

And for a hardware upgrade, we can condense The Winner's Brain into the summary - adequate sleep, proper diet (berries are excellent), exercise, and brain stimulation (music or language study, yoga, meditation) - have proven effects on enhancing brain structure and function.
