Fundraising for Operation Thank You

Upcoming and ongoing fundraising events for Operation Thank You, a May 2013 weekend bus trip sending Melrose Vietnam veterans to Washington DC.

Operation Thank You currently has 11 veterans signed up for the city’s trip to Washington DC on Mother’s Day weekend to visit the Vietnam Memorial and other famous monuments.  The Melrose Veterans Memorial Middle School group fundraising to pay for this 3-day bus trip has already raised more than $2,000, but still has several initiatives running that aim to cover veteran expenses.

On February 27, 2013, the group is hosting an event at Liberty Bell Roast Beef & Seafood at 866 Main Street in Melrose.  A portion of the proceeds from that evening’s food and drink sales will help fund the Washington DC trip.

The group has also designed a commemorative bracelet.  The bracelet is red, white and blue and adorned with the label “Operation Thank You.”  Interested parties can purchase the bracelet at Melrose Veteran Services or at the Melrose Veterans Memorial Middle School from now until June.  All proceeds from the bracelets will directly benefit Operation Thank You.  The bracelets are one for $3 and two for $5.

And just like last year’s Operation Resolve campaign, this year the middle school group is selling raffle calendars for the month of March.  The cost of each calendar is $10, giving you 31 chances to win cash prizes and a grand prize of $200 on St. Patrick’s Day.

If you are a Vietnam veteran and are interested in coming on the trip, please contact Melrose Veteran Services at 781-979-4186.  We ask that every interested veteran have a friend or family member attend the trip with them.  All interested veterans will receive a follow up application and additional information about the trip’s agenda.
