WBUR created a map showing how average teacher salaries compare across Massachusetts, and Melrose Public Schools' average K-12 teacher salary is among the lowest out of the city's neighbors in the region.

This article previously stated that Melrose had the lowest average teacher salary in the region. However, Matt Wilder, Boston Public Schools' director of media relations, pointed out on Thursday afternoon that WBUR used outdated numbers from the 2008-2009 school year in creating their map.

The most recent numbers from the 2009-2010 school year pull Melrose out of the basement and ahead of Stoneham, Reading and Arlington, although the city's average teacher salary remains among the lowest in the region.

On the map, the darker the city or town, the higher the average salary. The map can be viewed for elementary teacher salaries (red), middle school salaries (green) and high school salaries (blue).
