Congratulations to sophomore Felicia D’Amico! Felicia’s essay addressing the question “Is There Pride in Serving in Our Military?” recently won the local Voice of Democracy competition and placed second in the district-level competition. Felicia’s accomplishments will be officially recognized at the VFW Post 2394 banquet in February.

Established by the Veterans of Foreign Wars in 1947, the Voice of Democracy program is an annual scholarship competition in which students in grades 9-12 have an opportunity to express their ideas about an assigned patriotic theme. Competitors write and record a 3-5 minute essay addressing the theme and submit their written and recorded essays to a local VFW post for judging. Winners are chosen at the local, district, state and national levels; overall, the program awards more than $2 million dollars in scholarships and incentives
