Melrose Whiz Kid of the Week: Joshua Yee

• School: Melrose High 
• Accomplishment: The senior recently received notice that he had advanced to the final round in the National Merit Scholarship competition. 

From teacher Lisa Lord: 

Melrose High School is proud to announce that senior Joshua Yee has been named a National Merit Scholarship Finalist. Joshua is one of 15,000 students nationwide who will be considered for 8,400 Merit Scholarships. Official notification to scholarship winners will begin in April.

Joshua is an honors and Advanced Placement student. He is a member of the National Honor Society and co-captain of the swim team, and he plays viola in the Melrose High School Orchestra. In addition to his National Merit recognition, Joshua has received the Yale University book award, and as a junior, he received a SILS award from the Middlesex League for demonstrating service, integrity, leadership and spirit. He hopes to become a university math professor after college.
