Chelmsford may have been skating on its home ice, but Melrose proved it had the advantage as the Red Raiders cruised past the Lions in the first round of a loaded Division 1 boys hockey tournament.

No. 4 Melrose scored once in the first period and again in the second frame to take control of the contest at Chelmsford Forum.

But it was the third period that allowed the Red Raiders to run away, scoring two more times to seal a 4-0 victory.

Thanks to the win, Melrose advanced to the quarterfinals against Reading. The details of the game have not yet been released, but the tilt will likely take place on Saturday.
