[Editor's note: The following post appeared on Melrose Patch on Nov. 24 and is a reminder about when the Melrose-Wakefield Thanksgiving football game will be played.]

The tradition of playing football on Thanksgiving Day continues for Melrose and Wakefield Memorial High Schools this year.

The Thanksgiving Day game kicks off at 10:15 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 28 at Fred Green Field in Melrose. This year's game will be the 54th time Melrose (9-2 overall; 4-1 league) and Wakefield (6-4 overall; 3-2 league) have played one another on Thanksgiving.

During the regular season this year, Wakefield beat Melrose 17-14 in Wakefield on Sept. 27. Melrose recently won the Northwest Division 3 title, beating Woburn 31-7 on Nov. 15; however, the Red Raiders lost 32-14 against Tewksbury in the State semifinals on Nov. 23 in Lowell.

In 2012, Melrose defeated the Warriors 28-15 on Thanksgiving in Wakefield.

Tickets can be purchased in advance at the Melrose and Wakefield high school athletics offices ($6 for adults, $4 for students and seniors), or $8 on game day. Tickets can also be purchased at Gray's Appliance and the Mayor Rob Dolan's office.
