Summer Weekend Getaway: A Fair, A Luau, and Willy Wonka

Wanna take a short trip this weekend? Check out what's happening on the Rhode Island and New Hampshire seacoasts, the Cape and Martha's Vineyard.

Looking for a fast and fun getaway from Melrose this weekend? Summer in New England is filled with options. Check out what's happening this weekend in a few favorite summer spots:

Cape Cod and the Islands

Weather: On Saturday, a 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mostly cloudy with a high near 77, and at night at 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms before 9 p.m., mostly cloudy, with a low around 63. On Sunday, a 30 percent chance of showers, partly sunny, with a high near 77, and at night a chance of showers, mostly cloudy with a low around 63.

County fair, everybody in town'll be there: The 151st takes place on August 16-19 in West Tisbury. Rides and amusements provided by Cushing Amusements. There is a livestock show, a fiber tent, hall exhibits and tons of food and fun for the whole family. Open 10 a.m.-11 p.m. each day, admission is $10 for adults, $5 for kids 5-12 and for seniors.

Rhode Island

Weather: On Saturday, a 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mostly cloudy with a high near 76, and at night a slight chance of showers, mostly cloudy with a low around 64. On Sunday, partly sunny with a high near 76 and mostly cloudy at night with a low around 65.

LUAU! Pull that Hawaiian shirt and hula skirt out from the bottom of your closet—you know they're in there somewhere—for the , which benefits the Fort Adams Trust. There will be three live bands, a Polynesian dance group, a fire gypsy, tours of Fort Adams, beach volleyball and bocce. Newport Storm Beer, Thomas Tew Rum drinks and Polynesian fare available for purchase. Tickets are $10 in advance or $15 at the door. This is a 21+ event.

Seacoast New Hampshire

Weather: On Saturday, a 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, partly sunny with a high near 78, and at night partly cloudy with a low around 58. On Sunday, mostly sunny with a high near 76, and at night a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mostly cloudy with a low around 60.

A world of pure imagination: Prescott Park Arts Festival presents the opening weekend of its summer outdoor musical, Willy Wonka. Roald Dahl's timeless story of the world-famous candy man and his quest to find an heir comes to life in this stage adaptation of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, which features the songs from the classic family film Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. Shows on Saturday, Aug. 18 at 8 p.m. and Sunday, Aug. 19 at 7 p.m. There's a suggested donation of $5-10.
