Marathon Experience: This year I will be running my third Boston Marathon, but my first in 10 years. I grew up in Melrose and currently I live in Saugus with my wife Jen and two children Jessica and Justin. Most of my training runs start, finish or go through Melrose; I am familiar with the streets and know exactly where and when I'll encounter a hill!

The weather this year has made training a little easier, no snow banks or ice to navigate around was a nice treat!!!

Reason for running: This year I am training with the John Hancock Employee Training Program and fundraising for the Girls and Boys Club of Boston. (www.crowdrise.com/ericbremberg).

Their mission is to help young people, especially those who need us most, build strong character and realize their full potential as responsible citizens and leaders. BGCB serves 14,000 youth, ages 6-18, annually. Half of our members come from households earning less than $27,000 per year. Programming in our Clubs is offered at a cost of $25 per school year for youth ages 6-12 and only $5 for teens. Yet, BGCB invests an average of $2,500 per member.

Training Tip:  I trained for my first two marathons with the and the support was amazing. There was never a shortage of runners of the long runs. The training approach I took this year was a little different along with running I focused on getting a little stronger and have been a dedicated boot camper with the Melrose Boot Camp on Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 5:15 am! I feel having a support team is critical for a successful training season and the Melrose Running Club and has provided me this continuously!
